saying a dj is better than IM IS a bold statement... do you produce, or play original material / do LIVE PA?

i don't even really like the psy music, but those guys are musical gods....

I couldnt agree with that more

For sure guys... Infected Mushroom is on a whole other level than any DJ. They aren't even really comparable. I am not a big fan of their style of music, but that nite they had me captivated. They were pretty incredible live and they are true artists.

I can understand perhaps I played some music more to the liking of some peoples taste, that in no way makes me "better" than IM. We are all individuals as artists, and how we are viewed is relative to the individual.

For the most part, I am an old tyme vinyl DJ. I play many styles of music from ZZ-Top to Aphrodite. (maybe even in one set) My DJ influences were Z-Trip, DJ P, Rob Swift, Craze, Diggabeatz, and Steez. My music is typically dance oriented though. I will sometimes play (and actually utilize) three to four turn tables. I do sometimes play music digitally when it is something I made or sampled. I also utilize digital technology when playing tracks of unknown producers, local artists, and other "Fader Freekz" artists. I do mostly play on vinyl though.

I have meandered into the world of digital music production a little, but I am admittedly a little behind the times with this shit. Computers still baffle me a little. All I ever really put out production wise was the intro for my first CD. I have played aroud at home on my computer, but not to much avail.

I have played music organically since the age of ten. I played my first show in a bar at the age of ten! I play guitar, bass, drums, and some other random instruments. My aspirations are to produce music using organic instruments, and utilize digital technology to compose them. I would like to get a good electric kit and some other equipment to allow me to play live. That has not come to fruition yet, but my visions are clear, and it is only a matter of time. That doesn't mean I won't stop collecting, and probably playing vinyl though.

Thanks for reading... that was a load. If you actually took the time then word the fuck up yo! Wink

that's cool, and i in no way meant that as a diss... but i feel alot of peeps miss the difference between a dj, a producer, and a live PA act. they all have their spot in the world of dance music, but they are different roles. so i just point out when people try to compare that it's like apples to oranges.

i can respect your position, as i am a die hard vinyl junkie myself, and i always complain about dj's not being able to rock the vinyl and a fader. i started off as a turntablist who liked to play EDM... and scratch over it. but as the years have progressed i have definitely gone to another level with the studio and music production. i now view myself as a producer who can scratch and mix, and soon will be on the live PA tip...

that's cool that you play instruments, as most dj's can't, and even many producers can't. i myself play/have played trumpet, keyboard, and drums.

it's good that you have come to share your music with us, but you might want to also partake. there are many talented artists in this area and on this board... it's like i have told everyone who posts music on here... if you want people to take interest in your music, you must also have an interest in theirs. you'll be surprised how many people check out and leave comments on your posts, if you do the same to theirs... and you might also be surprised what you find on here........

You said it in the other post. Untimely posting I say. Aw well. Thanks for the advice I prematurely heeded. I look forward to hearing more. That is why I am here. To find new people, producers, and music.

yea, it's all good... we are on the same wavelength. look forward to possibly working with you, as there are not many people out there who are as interested in discovering other people's music as they are having their music discovered.

again thanks for sharing, and your interest.

were Z-Trip,

Boo!

[Rant]

Haha sorry I just cannot understand how the dude is held in such high esteem.  He is a glorified "wedding mash" dj.  He has a canned set packed with the textbook stuff that has been overplayed for years, and doesn't know how to read a crowd for shit.  When I saw him at Nikki beach dude was rocking shit like "Superstitious", and "Can't Go For That" (most played "hidden gem" ever) for his "classics" set.  At Nikki Beach LOL.  And he got hella bent on Kevy Kev (who I liked more) for playing "I Want You Back" right before he came on b/c I guess his remix of it is his opener.  Haha and he still played it 10 minutes later as an opener b/c I guess that was the only song that he could mix into OPP.   And my favorite part about the night is at the end when he tried to "keep things current" and played some Dubstep.  At Nikki Beach.. LOL  That's not to say he didn't have some good routines but dude doesn't deserve 80% of the respect that people give him.  There are  million better dudes out there doing the same shit, better, and working a whole hell of a lot harder.  Motherfucker did an good mixtape, got lucky and DJed a tour with Beck.  Now he is like some MASH GOD for snow bros, backpack hip hop dorks, and assorted people who know nothing about how rap/pop should be mixed.

Check out DJ Riz, he is the ulitmate when it comes to this shit and has been around waaaayyy longer than Z-trip.  One half of the crooklyn clan,   invented the party break, help usher in the whole mashup era, runs 3 websites which basically supplies 90% of the working DJs in this country party breaks/tracks.  Yeah dude basically created the shit that Z-trip is profiting off of.

[/Rant]

Can you tell I'm not a fan of him ??  Tongue

And this is in no way knocking you for liking him, I just really don't like him.

Awesome... Well I am checking out your other stuff now, so I will share my thoughts here soon.

If you like, I will go on the UtahRaves board and post a track recommendation. I am pretty well known out here, and I imagine they would check it out. I am always down to help a fellow aspiring artist get their music heard. Let me know.

...and on Z-Trip. That is quite the rant. I suppose I like him more for his selection than anything. I will listen to Z-Trip again with a different perspective and see what I think. I will check out this Riz you speak of. Have you heard DJ P? I dig his hell on wheels mix. I think both of these guys are friday club DJs as opposed to Saturday nite party DJs... unless it is a bachelor party. I like their style, but do prefer to liven it up with some more danceable music.

Yeah Z-trip is pretty much hated among all working DJs who mix have adopted the NY style of mixing ( A style that Riz basically help create).   And Riz's shit is hard to find, esp his "mashup" mixes.  You pretty much have to catch him at a club to see that.  Here is a real good mixtape he did:

DJ Riz Live From Brooklyn (pts one and two)

http://www.zshare.net/audio/5611363293c8b4df/

http://www.zshare.net/audio/56114080612db082/

Runs the originals that just about every big rap song in the 90s sampled.  It's pretty mindblowing.

But yeah pretty much every working DJ in the know pretty much agree's that Riz is the best.

And I have heard good thinks about P, I'll check him out.

It is probably also due to my technilogical ineptness. I can't keep up with technology. It is still 2003 in my world. Information won't get to me in SLC unless I go get it, and I am pretty lazy.

His MySpace page is loaded with stuff, it took awhile to load. There were tons of mixes, tracks, and videos available. Although most were live, and of shitty sound quality.

When he released his "Presence of Mind" CD/DVD, it had some good stuff on it. You can download that on his page. It is an 18 minute video, so it takes a little while. It is in MP4 format. I think that would be the one to watch though. It's in the studio, and of good sound quality. Here is the link:

http://blogs.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=blog.ListAll&friendId=10961006

and his My Space:

www.myspace.com/Steez

It is in his blogs. Near the bottom he has one that lists all of his mixes, with tracklistings, and has them available for download. I am sure I could make it easier for you, but I don't really know what the hell I am doing on my computer. I assume you probably do. Smiley

For sure. Dude is amazing. Currently my favorite local producer/DJ.

I played this show last April, I got the prime spot, and he opened for me. Crazy! I know I am pretty good, but this guy is a huge reason why I play the way I do. I felt priveledged. Tastes are relevant, even for promoters.

...and he kind of looks like Brian Urlacher, which is pretty cool.  Smiley

I love these cd's. The music selection flows well and the transitions are solid! usually cd's like this change in mood/tone very abruptly and it doesn't break during these. very well done!....cant wait for the next set of mix cds you were mentioning earlier in the thread. Smiley

QFT, this guy really knows how to throw some good tracks together, and some stuff that I wouldn't normally think you could.
But he always surprises me with what he can do!
